Western Endeavour. Western Endeavour was the first steam locomotive hauled service to operate on the new standardised Sydney to Perth railway line in 1970. The New South Wales Rail Transport Museum operated the special service across Australia in August and September 1970. Hauled by 3801 and assisted by 3813 as far as Port Augusta, Western Endeavour consisted of 8 sleeping carriages, a dining car, a first class lounge carriage
and a crew/storage car. In April/ May 1988, 3801 repeated the trip during the Australian bicentenary. This painting has been reproduced under licence locally and overseas as prints, wallhangings, jigsaw puzzles, placemats and coasters.
