Pacific Class 3829. Oil on canvas, 90 x 60 cm, 2014. Somewhere around this time I was beginning to run out of ideas for titles for locomotives and trains, hence the rather unimaginative title. Unlike the title however, the painting came together very well and was sold not long after going to the gallery. 3829 was the second last of the 30 locomotives in its class. Built at the Cardiff locomotive workshops in 1949 it underwent a series of different paint configurations until its withdrawal from service in 1966. Seen here, resplendent with black smoke box, green livery and red and gold pin stripes, she makes an impressive sight at the head of the Newcastle Express.
