Living Steam. 2018. Most 36 class locomotives were painted black but 3642 is carrying the striking green livery with red and gold pin striping. Carrying a full load of coal and water, the train obviously has still some distance to travel on the Main Western line near Bathurst. The morning sun glints off a freshly cleaned locomotive and train with a hint of the morning mist in the hills behind. 3642 is currently the only 36 class capable of operating “light engine” after almost 100 years of service. Currently located at the New South Wales Rail Museum Thirlmere, 3642 remains a firm favourite with steam buffs throughout Australia.
